When designing the Attune knee system, our research and development team at DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction (a division of DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., part of Johnson & Johnson) set many goals, including creating a knee system that addressed patient and surgeon needs while providing value to hospitals. We anticipated and planned for a long development process for the Attune knee that allowed us time to step back from everything we knew about knee replacement and explore possibilities for designs that could result in improving patient outcomes. What followed was six years of research and development with global thought-leaders and experts in their fields of study, such as kinematics, anthropometrics, polyethylene wear and design. Taking a research-based approach prior to product development was the key to creating the Attune knee system—the latest example of our innovation and advancement in the science of knee replacement.
